Sacha Baron Cohen’s hilarious skit with Borat, Bruno and Ali G

Leave it to Sacha Baron Cohen to bring a tired awards show back to life.

The 49-year-old UK actor has won the Comedic Genius award at the MTV Movie & TV Awards in Los Angeles today, where he omitted a standard acceptance speech in favour of a prerecorded skit honouring his most-controversial characters, with one of their outfits leaving little to the imagination.

First up, we saw Borat accepting the award, saying he would put his golden popcorn statue in his national museum “along with other treasures we have confiscated from Jews”.

Baron Cohen’s breakthrough satire character in 2002, Ali G, then interrupted Borat, declaring himself as the rightful winner of the award.

Shortly after Baron Cohen as himself then took to the stage, telling them both to leave as he took the award and thanked his millions of fans.

He then appeared to be taking an uncharacteristically emotional direction, saying: “I’m just a human being, creating complex, nuanced characters … Sophisticated tools to expose the …”

In came Baron Cohen’s gay Austrian fashion guru, Bruno, from the 2009 film of the same name, sporting his signature pink “naked” suit.

“Did somebody say they want me to expose my sophisticated tool?” Bruno asked prompting Baron Cohen to shriek, “Jesus.”

“No actually I’m not Jesus, although I have been nailed to a cross a few times.

“And by the way I’ve got a lot more followers than Jesus in Asia.”

Baron Cohen interjected: “You know what, before anyone else does it, I am officially cancelling myself.”

Baron Cohen, who has been in Australia with his actress wife Isla Fisher for the last few months, joins the likes of past honorees accepting the award, including Will Ferrell, Kevin Hart and Melissa McCarthy.
